The mission
The Hutson hockey family — with three NHLers in Cole, Quinn, and Lane, the younger junior Lars, their father Rob, and several accomplished coaches — decided to launch their own elite, player-focused AAA program. Most AAA teams are organized around roster and revenue, charging upwards of $15,000 plus travel just for a spot. The Hutsons wanted the opposite: to give players, families, coaches, and scouts a genuinely new kind of advanced analytics — a far clearer read on a young player’s future prospects, so training could focus on each player’s specific areas of need.
What we built
We developed the Hutson player-development brand and its website, a custom coach CMS for managing players on the road, and the analytics tool itself — a projection system that every family, coach, and player keeps in their pocket. Four connected pieces, one program.
Brand system · HPHA v3
The reverted HPHA mark reset the system: royal blue and red are locked equity, so every decision starts there. We moved the brand to a white-dominant, athletic-editorial base — the kind of institutional confidence a parent writing a $20K tuition check, or a D1 coach scanning forty player pages a week, reads in under three seconds — and reserved the dark for the hero.
The analytics
Every AAA program tracks stats. Ours does something different. The Hutson Composite Grade (HCG) is a proprietary 0–100 score that standardizes every skill against an age- and tier-matched cohort, adjusts for opponent strength and the relative-age effect, and regresses small samples toward the population prior — so a hot week can’t masquerade as a trend. It’s back-tested across several seasons and validated out-of-sample against who actually advances, currently an AUC of about 0.81 with split-half reliability near 0.83.
And here is the part that compounds: because the model’s baselines are estimated from the cohort, they sharpen as the cohort grows — the standard error on every benchmark shrinks with the square root of the sample size — so each new player pulled into the data set makes the next player’s projection a little more reliable. The accuracy isn’t fixed; it improves with participation.
Signature imagery · the player card
Rebuilt from the live profile at hutsonaaa.com — a clean, scannable roster card a coach reads in a glance, with the full HCG profile one tap away.
In the coaches’ and scouts’ hands
A custom coach CMS to manage players, lines, and evaluations from the road — and a scout view that surfaces the advanced analytics, opponent-adjusted and graded by game. Both simple, both powerful, both live.

Outcome
In about forty days we delivered a complete program: a brand system, a website, a custom coach CMS, and a predictive analytics tool that gives families, coaches, and scouts a genuinely clearer read on where a young player is headed — and gets more reliable with every player who joins the data set.
Most programs sell a roster spot. This one hands every family a projection they can trust — and it sharpens as the cohort grows.
Every engagement begins the same way: one paid conversation, one written brief, one clear answer about the edge worth building.
